msa pINES REGION SONGWRITERS FESTIVAL
Our Mission
The MSA Pines Region Songwriters Festival celebrates Mississippi’s rich tradition of storytelling through original music while supporting songwriters as creative professionals. Hosted by The Montgomery Institute in partnership with the Mississippi Songwriters Alliance, the festival brings songwriters, audiences, educators, businesses, and cultural organizations together to preserve and promote the art of songwriting in Mississippi.
Through live performances, youth education, professional workshops, recording opportunities, and community partnerships, the festival creates meaningful experiences that strengthen cultural tourism, encourage artistic growth, and support the creative economy of Meridian and the surrounding region.
Rooted in Mississippi’s legacy of narrative and musical expression, the festival provides a space where stories become songs, emerging artists find mentorship, and communities connect through authentic original music.

the art of songwriting
Mississippi has long been recognized as one of the world’s great storytelling landscapes, where lived experience is transformed into song, literature, and art. From front porches and church pews to juke joints and small-town stages, storytelling has shaped the cultural identity of the state for generations. The MSA Pines Region Songwriters Festival continues that tradition by creating spaces where original songs and the stories behind them can be heard, shared, and preserved.
At the heart of the festival is a commitment to authentic songwriting. The festival highlights artists whose music reflects real experiences, personal reflection, community memory, and Southern culture. Whether rooted in bluegrass, country, folk, Americana, blues, or contemporary acoustic traditions, the songs presented during the festival celebrate Mississippi’s enduring influence on American music.
By bringing songwriters into intimate downtown venues, workshops, and recording spaces, the festival allows audiences to experience music in its most personal form — directly from the creators themselves. These performances not only entertain but also preserve the voices, histories, and creative traditions that continue to shape Mississippi’s cultural legacy.

partnerships work
The MSA Pines Region Songwriters Festival is made possible through a strong partnership between The Montgomery Institute (TMI), the Mississippi Songwriters Alliance, and The Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience (The MAX), and The Jimmie Rodgers Foundation. Together, these organizations work to strengthen Mississippi’s creative economy while preserving the state’s rich tradition of storytelling through music.
As the facilitating organization, The Montgomery Institute provides festival coordination, program development, grant management, community outreach, sponsorship cultivation, and long-term strategic planning. TMI’s commitment to arts education, cultural tourism, and community development has helped establish the festival as a growing regional arts initiative in Mississippi.
The MAX serves as a cornerstone cultural partner and host venue for key festival programming. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to supporting artists, creating meaningful educational experiences, strengthening downtown Meridian’s cultural identity, and building sustainable opportunities for Mississippi creatives. The Jimmie Rodgers Foundation contributes to the youth educational impact through songwriting workshops.
